PRP Injections Q & A

PRP injections are an increasingly common form of treatment for a variety of musculoskeletal and other disorders involving tissue damage or deterioration. The injections support your body’s natural abilities to heal injuries and regenerate tissue using platelet-rich plasma (PRP), a substance taken from your blood.

Platelets in your blood cause clotting and stop you from bleeding when you injure yourself. They also trigger the healing process, as they contain large quantities of growth factors. Plasma is the liquid part of your blood, which also contains healing proteins.

Dr. Lanchbury extracts platelets and PRP from your blood, then injects them into your damaged tissues to multiply the effectiveness of the healing process. Studies show that PRP injections dramatically reduce overall healing time and alleviate inflammation.

PRP injections are suitable for treating numerous joint and soft tissue injuries and degenerative conditions, including:

  • Tendonitis
  • Ligament sprains
  • Tendon and muscle strains
  • Cartilage damage
  • Arthritis
  • Degenerative disc disease

PRP is also useful in aesthetic treatments due to its ability to combat skin aging and promote hair growth.

What happens when I have PRP injections?

The first part of the process at Sedona Regenerative Medicine is to harvest the PRP. Dr. Lanchbury extracts some blood from your arm then puts it in a centrifuge, which spins at very high speeds. This process concentrates the platelets within the plasma, which Dr. Lanchbury can then inject into the injured area.

To ensure the treatment doesn’t damage any nerves or tissues, Dr. Lanchbury uses image guidance technology to view the needle’s path as he gives you the injection. That also optimizes accurate PRP delivery to the damaged area.

You won’t see the results immediately, as it takes time for the PRP to activate new cell growth and enough new cells to form to make a difference in your symptoms. After a month or so, you should perceive an improvement in mobility and a reduction in pain that increases over the following weeks. These results can last for many months and sometimes years.
